Beth Moore, A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place
DVD Session 3
Exodus 33 focuses upon ABSENCE vs. PRESENCE.
At no time is God unresponsive to me. He will never say "noneya" to me.
Favor is something God feels.
Yaweh = "I AM the Covenant Maker, and I AM the Covenant Keeper."
"fact to face" = presence to presence; could be like tone of voice
Elements of close friendship: (1) Secrets and (2) Small talk. He calls me "friend" and wants these elements with me (70).
God's Presence dispels anxiety.
John 14:21 describes a demonstrative love: "The person who has my commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves me; and whoever [really] loves me will be loved by my Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]
God's distinguishing Presence meets my "with" need and my "significance" need. I have a "with" need for God and a "with" need for people: Idolatry occurs when I confuse the two.
God's glory = that which makes Him alone God.
Sometimes His glory's painful, sometimes not; but it's always good.
Exodus 33:22 "He Hideth My Soul in the Cleft of the Rock." (hymn)
Passes in v. 22 may be covenant language. God re-confirms/affirms the Abrahamic covenant by passing between Moses and the people.
v. 23 I may not see God coming or see Him in it, but on the other side, I'll know He's been there (71).
Week 4, Day 1
Deuteronomy 23:14
"The LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy so that He will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you."
"... this sacred dwelling place [the Tabernacle in the wilderness] reflected God's approach to humans: built from the origin of the Holy of Holies and painting outward beyond the veil" (73).
Henry Blackaby as quoted in Moore: "Without question we fight wars in the heavenlies; but before we can be sure it's spiritual warfare, we must be able to answer three questions negatively:
(1) Am I living outside the will of God?
(2) Do I have any unconfessed sin?
(3) Is God simply working His completion in me?
Far more often, our difficulties originate from one of these three realms" (75).
"'My own flesh is twice the enemy to me that Satan is.'... we do not hesitate rebuking satan because we despise him.... we dearly love our own flesh. We have far more difficulty rebuking it" (76).
