Psalm 17:8, Amp: "Keep and guard me as the pupil of Your eye... Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.... As for me [in faith], I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness."

Psalm 18: 1-3, 6

[in faith] I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold/High Tower. I will call upon the LORD who is worthy to be praised;... In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears."

study notes, Beth Moore, Breaking Free, Week 3, Day 3

Isaiah 55:1 "self-surrender that accepts the blessing" (Amp)

55:3, Amp: "[submit and consent to the divine will]

v. 6, Amp "Seek, inquire for, and require the LORD while He may be found [claiming Him by necessity and by right]....

v. 7, Amp The LORD will have love, pity, and mercy for those who return to Him. He will multiply to them abundant pardon.

Idols ultimately reap shame (67)

Idols = confusion, chaos, and worthlessness

GOD HAS BOUGHT ME BACK FROM THAT BONDAGE.

"Our craving to be filled is so strong that the moment something or someone seems to meet our need, we feel an overwhelming temptation to worship it." Why wasn't that place filled with God already?

"How many times have I fed on ashes instead of feasting on the life-giving Word of God? How many times has my deluded heart misled me? How many times have I tried to save myself? (67)

If what I'm grasping "isn't Christ, it's the worst kind of cheater. The kind that appears as a friend but secretly steals your treasures with no remorse" (68).

Beth Moore, Breaking Free Session 3 video notes

"satan sets the free captive through lies; Christ sets the captive free through truth" (54)

Psalm 40:11

"Withhold not Your tender mercy from me, O LORD; let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me."

Psalm 145: 18

"The LORD is near... to all who call on Him in truth."

My truth (environment + experience) is incomplete; I don't even know all my own truth.
My truth is subject to perception.
My truth + satan's lie that God MIGHT tolerate me= captivity (54-55).

God's truth is more powerful to free me than my truth is to keep me in bondage (55).

My truth + God's truth = FREEDOM!

Develop/Adopt a "God-glorifying attitude" (61).

God wants to
- get to my heart
- free me from hindrances in my past
- treat me with His Word
- set me completely free
- bring me out of dark closets
- help me with constraining problems
- make me strong in Him

Pride
- covers my heart
- refuses to look back
- doesn't like being told what to do
- thinks I am free enough
- says secrets are nobody else's business
- denies there is a problem
- won't admit weakness (63).

Rolling away the boulder of pride:

View pride as a vicious enemy.
Proverbs 11:2, Amplified: "When swelling and pride come, then emptiness and shame come also; but with the humble (those who are lowly, who have been pruned or chiseled by trial, and renounce self) are skillful and godly Wisdom and soundness."

View humility as a friend.
James 4:6, 10, Amplified: "But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully).... God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it).

Humble myself before God
"... humility is not something [I] have until humbling myself is what I do" (64).... [I] choose to humble [myself when I submit] to His greatness every... day" (64).

Psalm 16:7, 11

"I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.... You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore."

How do I record this as a prayer or as a "calling those things that be not as though they were? "I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.... Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip."

Isaiah 43:10-11

"You are my witnesses, says the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know Me, believe Me, and remain steadfast to Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the LORD, and besides me there is no Savior."

Week 3

"'Help me overcome my unbelief!'" (58)

Isaiah 57:15, Amplified

"For thus says the high and lofty One--He Who inhabits eternity Whose Name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the thoroughly penitent [bruised with sorrow for sin]."

5 major obstacles to God's might work:

1. unbelief
2. pride
3. idolatry
4. prayerlessness
5. legalism

Again, calling those thing that be not as though they were, "O LORD, [I] wait [expectantly] for You; [my] heartfelt desire is for Your Name and for the remembrance of You."

Isaiah 26:3-4

"You will guard him and keep him in perfect peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You.... So trust in the LORD 9commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever...."

Beth Moore: "Peace accompanies authority" (46).

You bought me "from sin's slave master" to set me free (47).

Peace like a RIVER (48).

"Not righteous perfection. Righteous consistency" (48).

Isaiah 43: 1, 4

You have ransomed me by paying a price; You have called me by my name; I am Yours.... I am precious in Your sight and honored, and You love me."

Set me free to be everything You planned (53).

John MacArthur: Daily Study Bible

Sarah's is the only woman's age of death recorded in Scripture (34).

Oswald Chambers as quoted in Beth Moore, Breaking Free:

"'Over and over again God has to remove our friends in order to bring Himself in their place, and that is where we faint and fail and get discouraged.... In the year that the one [or the thing?] who stood to me for all that God was, died-- I gave up everything? I became ill? [I got depressed?] I got disheartened? Or-- I saw the Lord? It must be God first, God second, and God third, until the life is faced steadily with God and no one else is of any account whatever'" (13).

Psalm 4: 4-8

"Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your own bed, and be still. [Amp.: "...silent (sorry for the things you say in your heart)] ...LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. You have put gladness in my heart.... I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You, alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety."

Based upon Prov. 2:1-5

IF I

receive His words
treasure His commands
incline my ear to His wisdom
apply my heart to understanding
cry out for discernment
lift up my voice for understanding
seek wisdom as silver
search for wisdom,

THEN I will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God."

How do I bend or stoop without feeling superior?

John MacArthur, Daily Study Bible

based upon Ephesians 2:8-9

"Although we are required to believe for salvation, we are also dead in trespasses and sins, so we can't believe.... it isn't just... grace that comes from God; it is also faith...." We can't even receive Jesus without God (viii).

Psalm 1:1-3

"Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season. Whose leaf shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.""
