The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly.

Isaiah 54:13, 17

"... all your [spiritual] children shall be disciples [taught by the LORD and obedient to His will], and great shall be the peace and undisturbed composure of your children.... no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This [peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the LORD [those in whom the ideal Servant of the LORD is reproduced]: this is the righteousness or the vindication which they obtain from Me [this is that which I impart to them as their justification], says the LORD."

Beth Moore, Breaking Free, Session 11 DVD

Samson's "sin had caused him to forfeit the power of God's presence" (402).

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

"Invariably when we're most exhausted, we'll find we're expending more energy fighting the enemy than we are seeking God's presence" (235).

"... take me prisoner to Your will
... And be Thou my vision.
...O, God, Who lifts the grieving head,
Blow away the ashes
But let Your gentle hand upon my brow
Be my only crown of beauty.
Comfort me so deeply,
My Healer,
That I seek no other comfort.

...So thoroughly impose Yourself
Into the heaps and depths of my life
.... Plow this life, Lord,
Until everything You overturn
Becomes a fertile soil,
Then plant me, O God
In the vast plain of Your love.
Grow me, strengthen me,
And do not lift Your pressing hand
Until it can boastfully unveil
A display of Your splendor" (237).

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

"'Am I ministering out of my need or out of the overflow of my own relationship with God?' ... Do [I] crave the affirmation of those [I] serve, and do they help [me] feel important? Or do [I] serve because Jesus has so filled [my heart] that [I] must find a place to pour the overflow?" (232)

Isaiah 55:12

"If you turn away your foot from [traveling unduly on] the Sabbath, from doing your own pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a [spiritual] delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable, and honor Him and it, not going your own way or seeking or finding your own pleasure or speaking with your own [idle] words, Then will you delight yourself in the LORD, and I will make you to ride on the high places of the earth, and I will feed you with the heritage [promised for you] of Jacob your father; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it."

Isaiah 32:17

John MacArthur, Daily Bible

Jesus repeatedly exposed the Pharisees' habit of seeking the approval of people (392).

Isaiah 58:9-12

"... take away from your midst yokes of oppression [wherever you find them], the finger pointed in scorn [toward the oppressed or the godly], and every form of false, harsh, unjust, and wicked speaking.... pour out that with which you sustain your own life for the hungry and satisfy the need of the afflicted.... the LORD shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought and in dry places and make strong your bones.... Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of [buildings that have laid waste for] many generations; and you shall be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets to dwell in."

Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness [your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God] shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard."

"Am I ministering out of my need or out of the overflow of my own relationship with God? Do [I] crave the affirmation of those [I] serve, and do they help [me] feel important? Or do [I] serve because Jesus has so filled [my heart] that [I] must find a place to pour the overflow?"

"God never allows or appoints a fire unless He can bring beauty from the ashes."

"God is much more interested in our callings than our comfort.....He's making us fit to serve."

"The purpose of refinement is to make us objects of beauty and recipients of reward."

He's burning up all the "fake" in me.

"We cannot often refuse the fire, but we can refuse to be refined by it."

"Sometimes our fiery trials are absolutely necessary to fulfill our callings."

"Self-protection is the Number 1 stumbling block we will face in fulfilling our calling."

Psalm 45:1

Make my tongue the pen of a ready writer for You, My God.

John MacArthur, Daily Bible

based upon the character of Joshua: "... the ultimate measure of prosperity and success--knowing how God wants his people to live and then living that way" (360).

I pray that I might live a life worthy of You and may please You in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of You, being strengthened with all power according to Your glorious might so that I may have great endurance and impatience.... (121, PGW).

Help me set my mind AND KEEP IT SET on you! (121) Colossians 3:2

based upon I Peter 2:1-2, 5, 6-8

I desperately need Your help to rid myself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like a newborn baby, help me crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it I may grow up in my salvation. Help me humble myself under Your mighty Hand and to cast all anxiety upon You. Help me be self-controlled and alert. Help me to spread everywhere the fragrance of knowledge of Christ. If I will keep following You, I will get there!

"Past failures lose their power, for they have been dealt with. Present thoughts do not overrun me, for I am in command of my thoughts and I make the final decision on what I believe. The opinions of others do not bombard me, for I have decided to believe what God says about who I am--regardless of what I or anyone else thinks." Dennis Jernigan, THIS IS MY DESTINY

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

"Working on our thought lives is the only thing that will keep them from working on us. Either our thoughts have control of us through the power of the enemy, or we have control of them through the power of God" (213).

"'I can't change the way I feel.' No, but we can change the way we think; and that will change the way we feel" (214).

Psalm 43:1-4 "Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause.... Oh, deliver me from [and from being] the deceitful and unjust.... For You are the God of my strength... Oh, send out Your light and Your Truth! Let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your tabernacle.... I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy...."

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

"... think the thoughts of Christ about the person we are forgiving" (209).

"The richest testimonies come from people Christ has made whole who still well remember what it was like to be broken."

"Before we can get controlling thoughts out of our minds, they must become Christ-controlled thoughts while still in our minds" (210-211).

Believe, speak, apply truth as a lifestyle--"something we live, not just something we do" (212).

Psalm 42:8

"The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me...."

Deuteronomy 33:26-29

"There is none like God... Who rides through the heavens to [my] help and in His majestic glory through the skies. The eternal God is [my] refuge and dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms... and I dwell in safety.... blessing is mine. Who is like... a people saved by the LORD, the Shield of my help, the Sword that exalts...! I will march on the high places of my enemy.

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

"If we do not cast down the high places, they will eventually cast us down.... we can either tear down our strongholds with the mighty power of God, or they will eventually tear us down."

"a person I felt I couldn't forgive had become an idol to me through my unforgiveness" (2-4).

satan lacks the authority to lock believers in a prison of oppression [and] works overtime to talk us into staying. [He] can presume no authority over [us]. He woos us into prison cells, but he [can neither] make us enter nor force us to stay.... Failure to post a 'keep away' sign through Bible study and prayer can be invitation by default" (206).

Francis Frangipane teaches that "the first step to holiness involves the Holy Spirit's cleansing our hearts from lies... with the Truth" (207).

"We can be forgiven... and still not be free."

"Once we tear down lies, we have to re-wallpaper with truth, or the enemy will happily supply a new roll of wallpaper. Different pattern maybe--a more updated look--but the same defective manufacturer."

"God will not release us from anything that has enslaved us until we've come to the mind of Christ in the matter" (208-209).

Psalm 42:5

"Hope [wait expectantly] for God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance."

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

Every stronghold
  • is related to something we have exalted to a higher position than God in our lives.
  • pretends to bring something we feel we must have: aid, comfort, the relief of stress, or protection.
  • is a tremendous source of pride for the enemy.
Get angry and determine to stop giving him satisfaction (199).

"satan's power comes from his power to bluff" (199)....[his] goal is to be worshiped.... If [he] can't get people to worship him directly, he... [tempts them] to worship something or someone other than God.... [He] cannot enter a believer. He cannot make us do anything. He can only lead us to do things.... The more we know God's Word, the quicker we recognize Satan's attempts to cover it" (200).

We don't become victors by conquering the enemy.... [but] through surrender to Christ. We become victors, not by independence from the enemy, but by our dependence upon God.

"... journey from captivity to our thoughts to taking our thoughts captive to Christ" (201).

"Most captivating thoughts were once casual thoughts not surrendered to the knowledge of Christ" (202).

"... learn to 'think the thought' as it relates to Christ and who [I am] in Him (203).

Psalm 86:5

"For You, O LORD, are good, and ready to forgive [our trespasses... letting them go completely and forever]; and You are abundant in mercy and lovingkindness to all those who call upon You."

Beth Moore, Breaking Free

"No one has ever done more to show [me] that [I am] unloved than God has done to show [me] that [I am] loved.... I may not feel loved or lovable, but Your Word says You love me so much [that] You gave up Your beloved Son for me. I don't know why I continue to feel unloved, but at this moment I choose to believe the truth of Your Word. I rebuke the enemy's attempts to make me doubt Your love. satan knows the truth will set me free, and I've believed his lies over Your Word. I pray for forgiveness for the sin of unbelief. Help me overcome my unbelief" (190).

"Christ was never resistant to sinners in the gospel accounts. He was resistant to hypocrites" (191).

"Baggage will always attract baggage" (Session 9 video).

Christians' "unwillingness to be truthful about their lack of satisfaction in the Christian life keeps them from asking the right questions: Why do I find the Christian life lacking? How can I be more satisfied? satan capitalizes on secrets! Secrecy always provides fertile ground for shame to grow. We grow more and more ashamed of ourselves for not being satisfied Christians. Because we won't ask questions inside the circle of believers, the enemy tempts us to look outside for godless answers" (181).

"With God, love is first a noun. It's what and Who He is" (182).

"I ask [God] to satisfy all my longings and fill all my hollow places with His lavish, unfailing love. This frees me from craving the approval of others and requiring them to fill my 'cup.' The, if someone takes the time to demonstrate his/her love to me, that's the overflow! I am free to appreciate and enjoy it, but I don't emotionally require it."

"Not only am I freed, I am able to free others from having to boost me up emotionally all the time" (184).

"Christ's bride is ill with unbelief."

"... no one will have to convince us to serve Him!" (185)
