David Platt, Radical
"... we have reduced [Jesus] to a poor, puny Savior who is just begging us to accept Him. ACCEPT Him? Do we really think Jesus needs our acceptance? Don't WE need Him?" Jesus is [not] one to be accepted or invited in but one who is infinitely worthy of our immediate and total surrender (37, 39).
"... cheap caricatures of Christianity that fail to exalt the revelation of God in His Word (39). Maybe we should "just read from the Word.... The Spirit is good to work with that" (40).
"... a heart that is cleansed from sin [and] longs for Him" (41).
"... our utter inability to accomplish anything of value apart from Him" (46).
What are things of value?
God "puts His people in positions where they are desperate for His power, and then He shows His provision in ways that display His greatness" (48).
charade= require little, if any, power from God" (49).
What is strangely lacking is desperation for the power of God" (51).
